Other Recent Headlines - 10/1/2009 FKL wins first Scottish jobMain contractor John Graham Dromore has commissioned FK Lowry Piling for the foundation works at the Royal Commonwealth Swimming Pool in Edinburgh. The project for Edinburgh City Council, which gets underway in the next few weeks, is FKL’s first contract in Scotland and is the result of extensive marketing of the business in the UK. Work at the Royal Commonwealth include the installation of 450mm diameter CFA piles using a Soilmec CM50 piling rig to construct a temporary retaining structure to support the external pool walls during a redevelopment of the facility as a training camp for the 2012 Olympics. Bridge works Following the successful completion of bridge works on the N6 Ballinasloe to Galway road redevelopment, FK Lowry Piling has won a further project on the scheme. The 110,000 Euros contract at Structure 37 – the Pollboy Overbridge – was completed earlier this year and involved the installation of ten 880mm diameter rotary bored piles using segmental casing. The piles were installed to depths of up to 19m into stiff boulder clay using a Soilmec SR70 rig. FK Lowry has now been awarded the contract for the piling work at Structure 33 – Urraghry Overbridge – worth in the region of 104,000 Euros. The project will see the installation of ten 880mm diameter rotary bored piles, again using segmental casing. The piles are required to be constructed to approximately 15m, with 3m rock sockets using conventional digging tools and rock coring barrels. College scheme completed FK Lowry has completed a £550,000 piling scheme for a new campus at Belfast Metropolitan College in Belfast. The project for main contractor Pattons, which was delivered ahead of programme, saw the installation of 700 355mm2 precast piles using four Junttan PM20 rigs and required a series of extensive static pile and dynamic testing. |
