DBFO 2: an Investment for Northern Ireland
Main contractor: Lagan Ferrovial Phase 1 &2: CFA Piling to form the contiguous retaining wall for an underpass; Junttan 18-30 rig Phase 3: Precast Piling for bridge abutments on the road; PM 20 rig Value: Approx. £370k
DBFO Package 2 is Northern Ireland’s largest ever roads PPP project which promises to significantly improve road links in the province. FK Lowry Piling is delivering part of the foundation works.
The 30-year £250 million DBFO scheme is being delivered by Amey Lagan Roads Ltd, a consortium of Amey and Lagan. Lagan Ferrovial, a joint venture between Lagan Construction and Ferrovial Agroman Ireland, is responsible for the construction package which is being delivered in three main schemes, whilst the routine operation and maintenance of the road is contracted to Amey Infrastructure Services Ltd. FK Lowry Piling is delivering part of the foundation works.
The scale and complexity of the project is significant. Scheme 1 alone will have 20 new structures - from an agricultural underpass to a 109m long viaduct - whilst Scheme 2 includes two over-bridges and two underpasses. Scheme 3 incorporates a further 22 new structures – including a 50m span composite bridge.
FK Lowry Piling is delivering a foundation package over three phases - two phases of CFA piles to form the retaining wall for an underpass at Loughbrickland, together worth £120,000, and one phase of precast piling required for bridge abutments on the road, valued at £250,000.
FKL will return for the second phase of CFA piling early in 2009.
